How much does studio time cost? What about an engineer, composer or producers? In this workshop you’ll learn how to create and monitor a baseline budget for your long-form narrative or always-on podcast. Join experienced operations director and budgeting whiz Doug Slawin as he gives you the rundown on the basics of project management. He’ll walk you through the process of creating a projected budget based on real-world numbers, teach you how to monitor your team’s spending through “Budget Control” or “Progress Review” meetings, and explain how to create an Estimate at Completion. You’ll learn to look at the numbers through the lens of managing the triple constraints of cost, time, and scope and will walk away ready to make informed choices on production and spending.

About Your Instructor

Doug Slawin

Doug Slawin is the Director of Operations at Campside Media where he has supervised over 45 productions. He is a certified project manager who develops and monitors production schedules and budgets to ensure shows deliver on time with all needed deliverables. Beyond his love of spreadsheets and Gantt charts, Doug is an audio engineer who has done work for TED and a composer who has written original music for the radio and television versions of This American Life, Esther Perel's How's Work, and Wondery's Suspect.
