Which mic should you use? What’s the best recorder? What if it’s too noisy to get good tape? This is a workshop for new audio producers or those who have spent most of their years in the studio. Award-winning documentary producer, Andrew Parsons, will make sure you’re prepared for your next field recording assignment. In this session, you’ll cover gear, check-lists, and recognize what makes good field sound. We’ll also go over common mistakes to help you avoid them in the future.

About Your Instructor

Andrew Parsons

Andrew Parsons is an award winning audio producer and the executive producer of the podcast company, Prologue Projects. He co-created and produced the first two seasons of the Slate podcast Slow Burn and was the senior producer of the history show BackStory. His work has been featured on Marketplace, The World, Studio 360 and Snap Judgment, among other outlets. Andrew has taught at his alma mater the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism and served on the Google/PRX podcast creator advisory committee.
