How to write for the ear
To learn to write for podcasting you often have to throw out all of the rules you’ve spent a lifetime learning. This introductory workshop will give you the new skills you need to get started.
Writing for podcasts is different than writing for print. One is writing for the ear and the other for the eye. To see how different, just pick up a copy of a newspaper and read it out loud. The difference is so extreme, you often have to throw all the rules you’ve spent a lifetime learning and start from scratch.
In this online workshop award-winning audio journalist Sally Herships will introduce you to the basic principles of the craft of writing for the ear. You’ll learn how to write with and for tape, how to use your voice as a tool. You’ll get an introduction to different styles and formats, do hands-on exercises, and learn mistakes to avoid. Whether you want to write long-form or short, news or narrative, this workshop will give you the skills you need to get started. Class is capped at 14.
