An overview of experimental options for audio producers to make visually compelling video. Bonus, they’re fast and cheap!

Video podcasting does NOT mean you are doomed to film people talking into microphones. This moment is an opportunity to invent a whole new medium and discover what video podcasting could be for narrative producers.

Do you want your show’s video and social clips to have their own unique visual identity, instead of looking like every other video podcast out there? There are ways to take your podcast’s video to the next level – where it adds to the experience, without taking away from the audio – and you don’t have to spend a billion dollars.

In this course, drawing on experimental cinema, video games, and underground rave culture, filmmaker and podcast producer Andrew Callaway (99% Invisible, You Feeling This, Reply All, This American Life) will open up some of his project files and show you video techniques you can use that will not dominate audio-first storytelling.

This is not a comprehensive tutorial on video editing. Instead, you will get introduced to specific techniques within programs such as Adobe Premiere, Character Animator, After Effects, Resolume, Descript, TouchDesigner, & Reaper.

You will leave the first class with concrete ideas, references, and techniques to help you dream up a video version of your show that you can be excited about – and two weeks later, you’ll have the opportunity to present some of your work in a hands-on feedback session where Andrew will give you more customized tips and tricks for your shows and clips.

Class is July 9th from 12:00-2:30 pm EST & July 23 from 12:00-2:00 pm.

Who's this class for?

Producers who are interested in experimenting with video for their shows, or video producers who are looking for new ways to make clips that stand out from the crowd.

This class isn’t about video editing. Familiarity with video software isn’t required. The instructor uses Premiere Pro, but all the same principles apply to any video editing software, such as Da Vinci Resolve.
